Basics of Photogrammetry

If someone asked you to define the scientific art of photogrammetry, you probably wouldn’t have a clue what you were being asked about. Nevertheless, you are most likely at least moderately familiar with the products that come out of this art.

Photogrammerty is one technique used in aerial photography to create images of large-scale areas for the purpose of providing information to various industries. This type of imaging may be used by geologists, architects, engineers and developers who are interested in the topographical layout of the land. It may also be used by the military or police forces for the purpose of reconnaissance and location monitoring.

This technique relies on remote sensing technology combined with a series of mathematical equations to generate true-to-life information-rich images. It’s an art which is actually quite old, dating back to the middle of the nineteenth century. However, it plays an important role in modern business and industry today. Luckily we now have modern technology that makes it a lot easier to use this science to our advantage!

Enhanced computer technology allows those practicing photogrammetry to take better images than in the past. Of equal importance is the fact that this technology now allows for increased sharing of this information between persons in different industries.
