The Big Remodel
By Pilot in Society | 0 comments
I was still in school at the time, a kid living in my parents house and trying not to get in the way as the contractors starting loading in pile after pile of new materials in our living room. At the time, it was probably the most exciting thing that had ever happened to me, not that that says much about me or my fairly dull childhood.
My mother had finally decided to strip out the old tile and remodel the bathroom shower, replacing it with one of those new shower enclosures so that there could be a tub and a shower (something about a constantly clogged tub bothered her). It was one of those events that should have been a quick two day ordeal, but eventually turned into a three week remodel, in which entire walls were removed, bathroom accessories were thrown across the carpet, and my mother almost punched a contractor in the mouth.
I’ll never forget it though, not only because it was one of those times you can’t help but be amused by, but because it was the first time I realized I never wanted to be a contractor.
